How to build a home gym without spending too much

How to Build a Home Gym without Spending a lot of money?

We can assure you that a home gym does not equal a big room with a lot of bulky machines. So do not let your imagination run wild.

The number one reason that stops people from creating a home gym is affordability. Most people are under the impression that building a gym is expensive which is true but only if you have your eyes on a gym flooded with all sorts of equipment. Such gyms can cost you way over £40,000 but if you have the money and can afford it, then you can spend that much on the gym of your choice. It’s not wrong but at the same time, it is not necessarily a good idea.  The truth of the matter is, you can still have a gym at home for as low as £1000.

Tips to Help You Create a Home Gym

Dedicate a space in your home for workouts

If you have an extra room in your home that isn’t being used, then you can transform it into a gym. It doesn’t have to be a big room. Many exercises such as pushups, squats, lunges, sit-ups, pull-ups, and some cardio exercises, etc, don’t require a huge space anyway.

However, if you do not have an extra room in your home, then you can dedicate any small space in any of the other rooms such as your living room, patio, garage, etc, for your workouts.

Buy a Mirror

Commercial gyms place mirrors almost in every corner for a couple of reasons. Firstly, it makes the space larger than it really is, and secondly, people love to workout in front of mirrors because it motivates them to give more in terms of performance.

Install a mirror against a wall at one side of the room that you will be using as your home gym. It’s not a necessity per se, and if you can do without it, then leave it out. However, if you feel training in front of a mirror helps with your morale and boosts your energy level, then have one installed. It also helps with correcting your form.

Start off with Essential home gym Equipment Only

As we mentioned earlier, when creating a home gym, it is so easy to get tempted into purchasing too many machines or gym equipment that will eat up a lot of space and cost you a lot of cash. Start off with a few basic equipment only and gradually add more later on if needed.

Whether your goal is shaking off some weight or adding muscle, focus on equipment that will provide two things: effectiveness and efficiency.

The basic equipment that you should buy initially for your home gym include the following:

Bench

Yoga Mat

Weight Plates

Rack

Barbell

Jump Rope

Dumbbells

You have the freedom to purchase all of the above or get only what you need. At the end of the day, this depends on your workout routines and fitness goals.

Empty Promises

Avoid at all costs gym equipment that you see on infomercials. They promise you fast results, but in all honesty, the items shown are cheesy, expensive, and just not worth your time or money.

Organizing and Storing Your Equipment

If you are using a shared room for your workouts such as the living room, then you will need your gym equipment organized and properly stored. For example, you can use ottoman benches to store away all your stuff after exercising. Alternatively, you can get a few bins or shelves and dedicate them to your fitness equipment or gear.
