What do you put in mind when you decorate your home? Do you focus just on what you want, and the interior that provides you a cosy home? Or do put the resale value in mind when decorating?
Many of us think that by using neutral colours like magnolia paint, they are maintaining the house value high. We tend to stay away from colorful walls and decorations, assuming that is what the next buyer would prefer. By doing so, we neglect our needs in having a home that reflects our personality.
In the past couple of years, most of us weren’t shy to use colors. We even used vibrant bold colors sometimes, and inspired room patterns from Laurence Llewelyn Bowen. It kept our homes special, and had a distinctive character.
Using magnolia is spreading
A study done by ColourMatch – a home furnishings brand, shows basic statistics about homeowners behavior. The sad truth is that 75% of us tend to take the safe side nowadays, and stick to neutrals like magnolia colors. Trying to show a certain image of ourselves, as sophisticated adults; to make an impression on neighbors and estate agents. Forgetting all about what we really prefer and like.
However, the previous situation is somehow justifiable, as 56% of potential homeowners prefer the safe option when buying new homes. On the other hand, 47% of homeowners design their homes putting in mind resale value. Most owners shy away from applying their vision of a perfect home, ending up with a soulless home. That’s why, according to the study, 26% of the surveyed homeowners don’t like the design of at least 2 rooms in their houses.
It’s your home!
All that in mind, it’s important to think about what will make us feel cozy rather than thinking about what would happen when reselling the house. Using colours elevate the place, putting some personality and life in your home.
Also, using colors in your home in different ways, helps in boosting your mood and highlighting different styles. Different colours have different effects, you can make the room feel larger by just using the right color.
